Some careers are chosen, and some seem to choose you. My journey in senior care began in a 300-bed skilled nursing facility in Central Florida, where I worked while finishing nursing school-following in the footsteps of my mother, who was also a nurse at the same facility. From the very first day, I felt a deep connection to the residents I cared for, realizing that beyond the medical care, they needed compassion, advocacy, and dignity in their final chapters. What started as a job quickly became a lifelong calling.
For over a decade, I immersed myself in the world of senior care-growing from a nursing assistant to charge nurse, head nurse of the rehabilitation unit, and later, the director of both the rehab and Alzheimer’s units. I expanded my expertise into social work, admissions, and marketing, gaining an unparalleled 360-degree view of the senior care industry. I learned firsthand how families struggle to find the right care, often lost in a system that prioritizes policies over people. That realization ignited my passion to create something better-something deeply personal and purpose-driven.
But no amount of professional experience could have prepared me for the moment my personal and professional worlds collided. My husband suffered an aortic aneurysm that nearly took his life, leaving him on a ventilator for seven months. In an instant, I wasn’t just a nurse or an executive-I was a wife and caregiver, navigating the hospital and rehab system firsthand. I fought through the uncertainty, advocating for his care while also raising our two teenage daughters. I lived what so many families experience: the fear, the overwhelm, the desperate search for answers. It gave me a new level of empathy and a deeper commitment to ensuring that no family ever has to go through this journey alone.
Then, in December 2023, after 23 years of marriage, I lost my husband. Grief reshaped everything. It forced me to confront the reality of end-of-life care, the ,challenges of navigating widowhood, and the immense emotional toll that comes with making impossible decisions. Yet, through the pain, I found a renewed purpose-to help families facing these same moments of uncertainty find clarity, confidence, and compassionate guidance.
I have worked in nearly every corner of the senior care industry. I became the Director of Health and Wellness for three assisted living and memory care communities and pursued my Executive Director certification in Florida, equipping myself with the leadership expertise to guide facilities, families, and seniors through this critical chapter of life. Now, as the founder of New Horizons Senior Solutions, my purpose is clear: Families deserve better than what the national placement agencies offer. Your loved one is not a prospect on a sales sheet. Their care should never be reduced to a mass email sent to dozens of facilities with no personal connection or genuine understanding of their needs.
